TESTIMONIALS

"I placed the ad for my RV4 at 6:30pm on Thursday evening. The first of 27 emails/calls came 1 hour later. The plane was sold on Mon- day. Thanks!" by Vernon Dury of Hurst, Illinois

"Thanks Barnstormers. My Gyroplane Project sold to a man in Holland who contacted me the day after the ad went in!" by Hap Enander of Brighton, Colorado

"The Cessna 140 has been sold. Barnstormers is, without a doubt, the best venue for aircraft and related products advertising. We will do business again." by Ray Scarpulla of Annapolis, Maryland

"My 1998 Glasair II-S FT is now sold. I had over 20 inquiries with 9 that were serious enough to want to know if the guy with first option bought (which he did). Please mark it SOLD!! THANKS TO BARNSTORMERS." by John Hong of Salome, Arizona

"Thanks a bunch, Barn- stormers! I placed my KR2 ad and had at least a half dozen serious inquiries almost immed- iately. The first fella came to see it. It was "Love At First Sight" and we closed the deal that same day. Two days later, we loaded the plane on his trailer and he set out for home. It's a beautiful plane at a reasonable price, but it was Barn- stormers that got the word out." by Thurman Longcrier of Florence, Alabama

"Absolutely amazing.. Second ad, second sale. This one took 90 minutes from when I placed the ad. First one took only 5 mins. What's wrong??? LOL Thanks" by Mark Greenstone of La Mesa, California

“SHOCKWAVE” - AVAILABLE !
Contributed by David Rose - La Jolla, CA

Every corner of the aviation world harbors the names of pioneers whose work has advanced the field to levels once thought impossible to achieve. Without their vision and boundless energy, aviation could not have progressed to where it is today.

When we mention planes like the P-38 Lightning, F-104 Starfighter, U2, SR-71 Blackbird, F-35 and the latest F-22 Raptor, you instantly know that we are talking about aircraft that have broken every mold. You also know that they were all conceived and developed by the men of Lockheed’s famous “Skunk Works”.

“Shockwave” was born of such men. Darryl Greenamyer gave birth to the project. Pete Law and Bruce Boland, both of the “Skunk Works”, joined in. Pete Law focused on “Shockwave's” thermodynamic considerations while Bruce Boland addressed both aerodynamic and structural design. Given the genius and vision of such men, “Shockwave” was destined to become one of the fastest propeller aircraft ever!

Many considerations of this new design were driven by Darryl wanting to focus the power plant on a round motor with plenty of horsepower. Initially, Darryl wanted to use a 3350 with power recovery turbines. Bruce Boland talked him out of that for several reasons… first, for drag considerations, the 3350 is of larger diameter than the 4360. Also, although both engines generally start with the same horsepower rating, the 4360 has more expansion capability. The engine from a C-124 was selected as the best option and the propeller chosen is a 3-blade C-130 hub housing Lockheed Electra Blades.

An aluminum fuselage was designed and built from scratch. It houses only those essentials required for racing and speed record attempts. Both ADI and Nitrous Oxide injection was planned for the engine and an ADI tank is provided with 5 Nitrous Oxide Tanks submersed within it. A boil off type oil cooler is installed behind the cockpit.

Bruce Boland chose British Sea Fury outer wing panels for wings. An entire wing center section was designed and custom built with the wing panels mounted directly to it. The wings were sealed to carry all the fuel. The entire tail section was adapted from an F-86F.

A 3,000 psi irreversible hydraulic flight control system is installed for all flight controls. It should be noted that this is the only Unlimited Racer with a boosted flight control system. The main landing gear comes from a T-2 Buckeye and is mounted in the wings, while the tail wheel mechanism was adapted from the nose wheel assembly of a Beechcraft Bonanza.

The high level professional caliber of this project is evident throughout its construction. Reviewing the volumes of printed data and drawings gives one the impression they were prepared for a production aircraft.

I could go on detailing countless innovations and engineering feats exhibited by this aircraft but they run beyond the scope of this article.

I will simply inform you that there now exists a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you to become a part of one of the world's most significant aircraft. Darryl Greenamyer is making this amazing aircraft available to anyone who has the capability of completing such a project. It is available either on a cooperative basis, with your organization assembling the aircraft and sharing ownership with Darryl, or for outright purchase.

It is believed all parts necessary for assembly are present including the skin panels, controls, several engines and numerous prop hubs and blades.

This is an opportunity to become a part of aviation history! Serious inquiries may be made to Darryl Greenamyer by contacting the eFLYER Editor.

Editor: Anyone unfamiliar with the backgrounds of the legends of aviation mentioned in this article need only search in Google for “Skunk Works”, followed by their names to catch up on the aviation history they all represent. Submit Your Comments.
