CH-47 Chinook Landing on Shack in Afghanistan

This photograph of a CH-47 Chinook balancing precariously a-top a shack in Afghanistan has been circulating the internet via email for quite some time but it would be hard to deny that the pilot’s skills displayed in this maneuver rightly deserves our attention and appreciation.

According to the circulating emails, the pilot is Larry Murphy, a Keystone Helicopter Corp. EMS pilot employee from Pennsylvania, called to active duty by the National Guard. The photographs were taken by U.S. Army Sgt. Greg Heath of the 4th Public Affairs Detachment in November 2003, during Operation Mountain Reserve. The mission? To retrieve “Afghan Persons Under Control”.
