The Texas Barnstorming Museum is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization created to teach and inspire youngsters to enter into any of the aviation trades. We operate 2 Piper Cubs, a PT-17 Stearman, a 1932 WACO UBF2 "Texaco 17", a 1929 Fleet Model 2 and a Beech D17S Staggerwing. Each of these airplanes are maintained in airworthy condition to give young pilots an opportunity to learn and fly in classic aircraft that would not be normally available to them. Selected from local high schools, each student begins their instruction in one of our J3 Cubs.  Beginning in 2023, we will begin teaching in the Hallettsville Public High School as a STEM course, hopefully to inspire more youngsters into aviation career paths. So far, we have 7 local youngsters who have began their interest in aviation here, and are all CFI's and aviation career bound. Not bad for a little town of 2600 in the middle of South Texas!
We fund our activities by fundraising events and raffles. In 2021, we raffled a Vans RV-12 aircraft, and in 2022 a beautiful 1965 Mustang. Each year, we have a Fly-In BBQ/Pig Roast at our home airport, the Hallettsville Municipal Airfield (34R).
For more information on us, our activities and aircraft, please drop by any time or visit the website at www.whereolddogsfly.org

The Prize

  • 1941 Piper J3 CUB

With less than 300 hours on a complete rebuild (Engine and Airframe), this little cub is going to make someone a neat little airplane. It's cute as a button, mechanically sound and ready to fly. The airplane qualifies as Light Sport, so for those currently without a pilots license, obtaining a license to fly it is a lot easier !
Like nearly all Cubs built in 1941, this airplane actively participated in the War effort by being used as a CPT trainer. It's been upgraded to an 85 Horsepower Continental engine, McCauley Metal prop and modern Cleveland disc brakes.  The airplane has no electrical system, but we are in the process of adding an electric starter and rechargeable battery to eliminate hand propping.
We operate 2 Cubs almost identical to this one, and we purchased this one solely for the raffle. We looked long and hard to find a clean airplane that will make the new owner proud and provide years of fun and enjoyment with a minimum of ongoing maintenance.
The winner does not need to be present at the drawing and has an option of $25,000. cash instead of the airplane. Winner is responsible for any taxes due at the time of the award. Void where prohibited by law. As a 501c(3) Non-Profit organization, the Texas Barnstorming Museum is allowed to conduct Raffles for the purposes of fundraising. Open to US residents only. The airplane is flown and maintained according to FAA and manufacturers recommendations, so the accumulated airframe and engine time might increase slightly. Raffle ends 5/12/2024 or the sale of all 3500 tickets, whichever comes first.
