This painting of a Waco Taperwing was a 2-3 month project on, believe it or not, a 12'x40' hangar door. It was done in 17 colors of paint, and 2 colors of auto striping. It is an art deco style design with no shading or blending of colors to make it easy to touch up after hurricanes slam stuff across it! Merana Cadorette, professional artist, says: "As I have to live where it is being done, I won't be doing that for anyone else, I don't think! I still plan to finish clear-coating it when the weather cools a bit for added protection.

Merana is married to an aviation engineer, experimental plane builder, and pilot. Her eyesight is not up to piloting, but she loves flying... especially open cockpit. Her involvement in aviation has been air show volunteer, extra shop hands and moral support. Merana has painted over 30 watercolor portraits of airplanes, some of which she did outside on location (aka 'plein air') at "Sun 'n Fun" and at EAA Chapter 99's annual Vero Beach Fly-In.

Merana hand-sculpted tile reproductions in clay (3'x5') of 6 vintage aviation posters for the north and south sides of their hangar.

Merana's husband, Dave, designed and they both built their house and hangar in a grass strip community. In addition to the images on the sides of the hangar, there is a 6' compass similarly done in their entry floor of their home, and hand-sculpted tiles featuring 10 different airplanes as the kitchen backsplash. The ceilings in the main area, kitchen, and master bedroom are all painted (not sponged!) with clouds.
