One of the stars that the Great Lakes International Airshow
has scheduled is the Tuskegee Airmen P-51C "Red Tail." |
The Great Lakes International Airshow, held at the St. Thomas, Ontario Municipal Airport (YQS), will feature a wide selection of aircraft at this year's event. From vintage World War I and World War II aircraft to civilian aerobatic performers and an assortment of military aircraft, the show offers something for everyone. |

One of the highlights of the airshow has to be the "Tuskegee Airmen" P-51C Mustang from the Commemorative Air Force. The airplane is part of a movement to honour the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen, the all black World War II USAF Squadron. This beautiful Mustang will fly an aerobatic performance highlighting the graceful lines and the iconic sounds the P-51 is so well known for. |

Another aerobatic performer who will show off his skills and the performance of his aircraft is Michael Wiskus in the Lucas Oil Pitts. This nimble and speedy high-performance biplane will be tossed around the sky like a cat playing with a mouse. Billowing a stream of white smoke Wiskus will fling his aircraft through the sky with manoeuvres that would have most people reaching for the air-sick bag! |

The Royal Canadian Air Force will showcase several aircraft including the 2013 CF-18 Demonstration Hornet painted to represent "The Common Thread," celebrating Canada's rich diversity and the ties that bind Canadians of all backgrounds. Captain Patrick "Flocho" Pollen will display the Hornet's capabilities flying a demonstration with stomach turning manoeuvres, varying in speeds from 100mph to just below the speed of sound. |

The Great War Flying Museum will display their beautiful replica World War I aircraft including the Royal Aircraft Factory SE5a, Fokker Dr.1, Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter and Nieuport 28. These iconic aircraft of the "First World War" will perform a demonstration in a display of the classic "dog-fight" style of the era, ending with the shooting down of the Red Baron. |

Manfred Radius, Canadian aerobatic glider pilot, will put on a graceful display in his H 101 Salto sailplane high above the crowd. Flinging his sailplane through the bright blue skies above St. Thomas, Radius will put on an amazing display, trailing wingtip smoke, ending with Radius cutting a ribbon stretched between two narrow poles, while inverted, just a few metres above the ground. |

will thrill the crowd with his fabulous display in his Red Bull Edge 540. |
Canadian Red Bull Air Racer and aerobatic pilot, Pete McLeod, will make his Edge 540 aerobatic airplane dance through the sky with an exciting performance showcasing his skill and precision and the ability of his agile aircraft. From London, Ontario, this local boy is a favourite at Canadian airshows and will surely be a crowd pleaser at the airshow. |

The British Aircraft Corporation (BAC) Strikemaster is the modified, combat version of the Jet Provost that was developed in the 1960s and was armed with two 7.62mm machine guns and air-to-ground rockets, serving as a ground attack aircraft. The Strikemaster's power plant is a Rolls-Royce Viper engine that powers the agile little jet to a top speed of 481mph. |

Other performers at the airshow include the RCAF flying their CH-146 Griffon Helicopter and the venerable CC-130 Hercules. These two aircraft perform a number of different duties with the Canadian military including, but not limited to, Search & Rescue, troop carrying and/or movements and cargo carrying. Also flying in the airshow is the iconic B-17 "Sentimental Journey" of the Commemorative Air Force. |

Rounding out the performers for the airshow are the revered RCAF Snowbirds. Performing in airshows across Canada, the United States and as far as Mexico, the Snowbirds put on an impressive and graceful display. Flying as close as 1.5m with wing overlap, the Snowbirds are amongst the best aerobatic display pilots in the world. If you've never seen them, you're guaranteed to be impressed. If you have seen them before, you'll still be impressed. |

If you love airshows then head to St. Thomas Municipal Airport, June 28-30. Only 2 hours from Toronto, the Detroit/Windsor border or the Niagara Falls/Buffalo border, St. Thomas is easy to get to.
